Kinsta is a well-known hosting service that has developed quite a reputation in the last several years. The service has been around since 2013, and in the years since, it revolutionized WordPress hosting solutions.
The reason for this is that its developers were not impressed with what such solutions used to offer. So, they decided to come up with their own fix, and it worked. In fact, not only did it work, but it made Kinsta the leading platform for WordPress hosting. But, you don’t have to take our word for it — instead, just look at what it has to offer.
Why You Should Try Kinsta
1) Impressive Speeds
Speed is one of the most important aspects of any website that much everyone knows. If your site is slow-loading, your visitors will leave before they even get a chance to check out your content.
Fortunately, Kinsta has this aspect covered. In fact, the service’s speeds are quite impressive. To give you some idea of how good it is, Google recommends that the server response time needs to be under 200 ms. Kinsta’s shortest response time was 10ms, while the more distant regions needed longer, but still under the limit — 180 ms.
But, these tests did not take into consideration various advanced technologies that Kinsta users can use to cut the load time further.
2) It Has a Cloud-based Infrastructure
Another thing that allows Kinsta to achieve good speeds is its cloud-based infrastructure. In other words, it offers only Google cloud server hosting, which makes it different from its competitors even at its base. Most others offer shared or dedicated hosting, but Kinsta immediately went for something better.
Instead of a single server in a data center, cloud hosting offers virtual server space, which uses an entire network of physical servers. This increases flexibility, reliability, and scalability. Most importantly, it increases speed.
3) It Offers Speed-Improving Software
Our third point also revolves around speed, but that should give you some idea of how speed-focused Kinsta is, and how fast it can get.
The service also uses speed-obsessed architecture, as it claims itself. In other words, it uses fast technologies such as MariaDB, PHP 7, Nginx, and LXD software containers. Not to mention all other kinds of plugins and addons that can definitely help in this regard.
But, likely the most important of its aspects is KeyCDN, which is an HTTP/2 nad IPv6-enabled network focused on content delivery.
4) 100% Uptime
Stepping away from speed-revolving features, we have another highly important aspect of each site, and that’s its uptime. And that is often an issue with hosting providers, as many of them tend to drop to 98% or 99% at best. For several years, Kinsta was at 99.9%, and it finally improved its tech enough to reach 100% in December 2018.
Now, for over a year, the provider sat at 100%, never experiencing any noticeable drop in percentage. That means that anyone who visited a Kinsta-based website never ran into troubles or tried to visit the site only to find it unavailable. Of course, that doesn’t include sites that were potentially attacked by hackers. As far as the competence of the software goes, Kinsta is at 100%, which is definitely a pro, if we have ever seen one.
5) It Takes Care of Itself
As mentioned, Kinsta is a managed WordPress hosting provider, which means that it manages WordPress for you. That means that you have a lot more free time to work on your site’s content and growth. Meanwhile, you don’t have to worry about updating your software or tweaking other technical stuff.
6) Professional Support
Too commonly, we run into services that look amazing at first sight, only to discover that their customer support is… well, a disaster, to put it lightly. Fortunately, that is as far from being the case with Kinsta as possible. In fact, its customer support is probably one of its biggest strengths, and that’s no empty claim.
Kinsta’s customer support consists of Linux hosting engineers and veteran WordPress developers. That means that they know everything about WordPress. They are available via the Intercom widget at any time of day and night. You can also find them on live chat, or use a ticket solution, whatever you prefer.
The support replies within only a few minutes, and it is polite and able to help with any issue.
7) Migration and Set-up are Simple
Next up, let’s talk about how easy it is to get things started on Kinsta.
Regardless of whether you already have a website elsewhere, or you wish to get started from scratch on Kinsta — the procedure is as simple as it can be in both cases. If you wish to start from scratch, you will be surprised how easy it actually is. Anyone can do it, and we literally mean anyone.
Meanwhile, if you want to migrate your site, you should know that every plan has at least one free migration. And, of course, you can always count on the mentioned team of experts to help you out.
8) Security and Backup
Once you have a site up and running, security and backup are among the most important things. Kinsta is well aware of this, and it covers both areas.
When it comes to backups, it offers plenty of tools to help you protect your content. It offers:
- Daily backups
- Event backups
- Manual backups
So, no matter the circumstances, you can do a backup at any time, or wait for an automatic one.
In terms of security, it offers:
- Non-stop traffic monitoring
- SSL support
- Hardware firewall
- Automatic security updates
- Up to 4 name servers
9) It is Very Scalable
If you are worried about whether or not Kinsta will be able to handle your site should your traffic grow to some serious levels — you can rest easy. Kinsta is incredibly scalable, which is another of its exceptional features. This scalability comes from its cloud-based architecture, as mentioned.
Since it is not bound to a single server, your ‘portion’ of the hosting can grow as large as it needs to be. In theory, the site can grow to be almost limitless, and the company simply needs to keep adding servers. Just remember that this might cost you — if you exceed the monthly visits cap of the plan you hose, you will have to pay a fee of $1 per 1,000 extra visits.
10) E-commerce support
Lastly, we should also note that Kinsta is also great for those who wish to open an online store on WordPress, as well. It offers free plugins, such as WooCommerce, so you will definitely not run into a shortage of features there.
But, keep in mind that e-commerce sites are usually the ones that tend to grow rapidly and become rather overwhelming. It is easy to overstep your limits with them and be forced to pay extra for your visitors.
How Much Kinsta Costs
When it comes to different plans, we always feel like the more there are, the better, as they can be more specific and offer a more precise deal. That way, you can find the one that is just right and you won’t have to pay for more than you need, nor will you experience a shortage of features.
In Kinsta’s own case, the selection of plans is huge — there are 20 of them in total. Well, to be precise, there are different plans, although each can be purchased monthly or yearly, which really doubles their number. Of course, each comes as an improved version of the previous one, and they feature a 30-day money-back guarantee, too.
As mentioned, if you pay yearly for any of the plans, you get two months free. Other than that, the plans are as follows:
- Starter — $30 per month (or $300 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Pro — $60 per month (or $600 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Business 1 — $100 per month (or $1000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Business 2 — $200 per month (or $2000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Business 3 — $300 per month (or $3000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Business 4 — $400 per month (or $4000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Enterprise 1 — $600 per month (or $6000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Enterprise 2 — $900 per month (or $9000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Enterprise 3 — $1200 per month (or $12000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
- Enterprise 4 — $1500 per month (or $15000 per year, if you choose to pay annually)
Regardless of whether you pay monthly or yearly, the plans will offer exactly the same features on a monthly basis. There are only two advantages to paying yearly — you get peace of mind regarding your subscription for an entire year, and you get the price reduced by not paying for two months for each plan.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Now, while we thought that all the positives regarding Kinsta are excellent, and they pretty much buy everyone immediately, there are still some things that we did not like about the service. These are not huge flaws, but they might be a deal-breaker for some people, so you should know them before you make your move.
1) The Prices
First, and likely the most important issue for everyone starting from scratch, are the prices. The prices are an issue because Kinsta tends to charge you a lot right from the start. The monthly cost is pretty steep, and it can go from $30 to $1500 per month, depending on the plan you choose.
However, if you go for a yearly plan, you will get 2 months free. While that is pretty good, the monthly cost is still high enough to discourage many who are uncertain of their earnings in the near future.
2) You Can’t Call Customer Support
We spoke of the great quality of their customer support, and we stand by it. However, even with that in mind, it is still worth noting that the support doesn’t offer phone support, which is a bit odd since most of the competition has it.
A lot of people prefer this way of communicating with the support team, and for them, this might be a problem, even though having written instructions might be more practical. In the end, this is a matter of personal preference, and you have to decide whether you are okay with it or not.
3) No Email Hosting
Last of the ‘problems’ we would want to point out is the lack of email hosting, This is one of those things that you need in order to fully set up your site and manage it for years to come, and Kinsta currently doesn’t have it.
What this means is that you won’t be able to use emails based on your domain and organize multiple of them for separate things, and alike. Instead, you will have to find a separate email hosting service, which can be a bother and a more serious issue for some people than the other two we mentioned.
And, with that, we would end this review of Kinsta. All that remains is to answer whether or not this is a good solution for you and your business. As usual with this kind of product, only you can answer that, because only you know the precise needs of your business.
We believe that Kinsta can be useful to most people, although everyone’s requirements are unique. With that in mind, we urge you to explore our review in detail, look into what Kinsta has to offer, check out its website, and make your decision.
